Aims

The Graduate Certificate in Dementia Care and Leadership contributes to individual, service and sector capacity in contemporary evidence-based dementia care, policy and leadership to improve the lives of people with dementia and their families. The Graduate Certificate is designed to build upon existing knowledge and practice for diverse professionals seeking a competitive edge specific to dementia. Flexibility in topic selection enables students to direct their learning to meet individual professional needs and interest including care, policy or leadership. Course content is continuously updated in response to contemporary industry and policy, priorities and opportunities associated with an ageing population. 

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:
1.
Apply contemporary, best practice, person-centred care and knowledge working with and for people with dementia and their families
2.
Demonstrate capacity to positively impact policy, service delivery, workforce development and workplace quality and culture across diverse dementia care settings
3.
Integrate research, theory and global perspectives of leadership to improve personal practice and effect change in policy, strategy, professional practice and governance as it relates to dementia care
4.
Demonstrate the necessary leadership, decision making and communication skills to initiate improvements in health, community and social care systems that affect the lives of older adults with dementia

Student progression rules

Except with permission of the Dean (Education):

  • The course must be completed within six consecutive semesters
  • No topic may be attempted more than twice

The award of a grade of Fail (F) in three or more topics, or the award of a grade of Fail (F) in the same topic on more than one occasion, may constitute prima facie evidence of unsatisfactory progress for the purposes of the University's Policy on Student Progress.
