Aims
The double degree course aims to produce graduates with a sound basis of knowledge in their chosen areas of study in the Bachelor of Languages together with graduates who:
- Have the cognitive skills to critically review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge
- Are able to apply their knowledge creatively and skilfully in a variety of settings
- Are able to communicate effectively
- Are able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Have the capacity to undertake ongoing study through a variety of pathways
- Have developed knowledge and skills in at least two school curriculum learning areas
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course you will be able to:
1.
Apply educational theory, knowledge and understanding to make informed professional judgements in diverse educational situations
2.
Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences for a range of purposes about matters relevant to the education of children and young people
3.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills that provide a foundation for being able to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve high quality, equitable outcomes for young people and the wider community
4.
Acquire a knowledge and understanding of the content, context and processes of learning and teaching
5.
Use a wide range of literacies with confidence and competence
6.
Develop the metacognitive skills to engage critically in the complex thinking required in learning and teaching
7.
Establish a firm educational foundation for ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
8.
Communicate at a high level of competence in the main target language of study
9.
Demonstrate competency in a second target language of study or have gained knowledge and skills in one of the following areas of study: Applied Linguistics, English, TESOL
10.
Have developed an understanding of language acquisition
11.
Demonstrate broad knowledge of Cultural Studies relative to their language of study
12.
Have developed critical understanding of theories and/or principles underpinning the chosen area of Language Studies, and knowledge of current issues therein
13.
Undertake and successfully complete a research project at third level in a specific area of Language Studies
14.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills in relation to inter-cultural communication
15.
Have developed understanding and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity

The award of a grade of Fail (F) in the same EDUC topic on more than one occasion may constitute prima facie evidence of unsatisfactory progress for the purposes of the University's Policy on Student Progress.
