Aims
This course aims to enable students to:
- Examine issues, trends and approaches in the global tourism and events industry
- Examine issues in tourism development and planning that allow for the retention of the authentic character of a place and investigate the approaches required to best deal with opportunities and challenges presented in global tourism
- Promote and utilise strong links with the tourism and events industry
- Develop a critical and theoretical understanding of tourism and events as a global phenomenon and apply that understanding to international, national, regional and local circumstances by examining diverse industry practices in a range of contexts
- Undertake an industry placement and an industry-linked research project
- Analyse trends in worldwide tourism and their impact with selected local, regional, national and international aspects of tourism
- Develop a sound understanding of policy, strategic development and global best practice for sustainable tourism
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course you will be able to:

Apply the appropriate knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes for successful careers in the field of tourism and events

Explain the concepts of tourism and events in an international context, and demonstrate a broad understanding of its role in relation to the arts, culture, environment and/or heritage of a place

Demonstrate a broad understanding of international trends in tourism and events
4.
Communicate in a professional manner through analytical reports and effective verbal presentations in a variety of disciplines and collaborative situations
5.
Apply both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to specific case studies

Demonstrate how theoretical concepts can be applied in the workplace by undertaking an appropriate industry placement in tourism and events organisation
7.
Demonstrate skills in quantitative and qualitative evaluation, management and marketing in a tourism and event context
8.
Demonstrate an awareness of the sustainable development of environments and management of heritage
9.
Act ethically as professionals within tourism and events industry
