Aims

The course aims to:

  • Provide students with an understanding of sport and physical activity policy frameworks and legal requirements to reflect, contextualise, enact and advance policy design and application
  • Introduce students to the interdisciplinary field of sport, health and physical activity including areas of health promotion, physical activity, coaching, inclusive practices, and movement science
  • Establish the foundations for students to become effective professionals in, and advocates for, sport and physical activity
  • Equip students with specialised learning experiences by combining the study of sport and physical activity with other areas including sports business, outdoor education, sports science and community health and physical activity practices
  • Provide students with an understanding of the significance of sport, physical activity, and human-nature relationships within the context of a healthy lifestyle

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

Utilise theoretical advances and practical approaches in designing activities for community health, wellbeing, and active participation initiatives

Develop collaborative and cooperative approaches to aid knowledge dissemination across a broad range of community physical education, sport, and health settings

Develop effective communication and information gathering skills to satisfy different stakeholders and scenarios
4.
Demonstrate independent learning and reflective practice skills

Recognise the significance of engaging in, and understanding, research within the discipline of sport, health and physical activity as a lifelong academic and educational tool

Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding in a complementary discipline of study (i.e., sports business, outdoor education, sports science, and community health and physical activity practices)
